Default Clip Walking ...

As I've stated 1,739 times before, lol I do hip hop music, which isn't the most mellow music in the world. When I mix I notice that the mix fader goes into clip pretty quickly (even when I'm just working on my drum track). What I wanna know is even if it clips and doesn't distort, is it still clipping? I can turn the mix fader down to where it won't clip and mix like that, but am I guaranteed a strong signal when I bounce?

I know what you mean. I see red lights and I don't hear clipping. However, I turn stuff down so I don't get clipping all the time.

You can add a limiter to the output to tame those peaks. Drum peaks can be very loud. You can then turn up the overall level after controlling the peaks.

First of all,
you take the prize for best subject heading.
i'm still snickering about that.

anyway,
when i see a track going into red ill use the gain plug and bring it down a db or two. also i agree that the limiter would be helpful. try putting all drums to a bus and limiting there. . just my idea.

im guessing there is a little headroom. but i could be wrong. computer engineers in the house?
