Arrow PT 9 and Mac OS X Lion

So with Mac OS X Lion announced to come out in July, how long will it take for Avid to support Lion? I'm hoping less then 3 months, but we all know Avid...

You seem very matter of fact about that, is there somewhere you saw that Pro Tools is on a quarterly update system because this is news to me.

There have only been 3 updates for PT 9 so it's hard for me to just start assuming they will release updates quarterly; the dates of the updates are 2 months apart and then 3 months apart, so why are you assuming there is a fixed amount of time between updates? Why would they stick to releasing updates based on a timeline rather than stability of bug fixes, especially when Lion comes out and every Mac PT user is going to want to upgrade? Do you know the programmers or something?

I'd guess that Craig is making assumptions based on previous performance. Anyone who has traded stocks or read a prospectus knows what the language looks like in a typical "forward looking" statement... I'd also like to think that Avid is already looking at the developer releases and SDKs for Lion to get ahead of the curve.

This consideration/observation come's from someone who's previously managed a moderately large-scale dev team working with a well known and relatively complex financial software product in a previous life.

My guess is that because Lion seems to be doing a lot under the hood, it's a much bigger update then Snow Leopard was, and that took a while. I'd guess it's at LEAST six months after it's released. Probably more like 9.

Just my guess.

They will probably surprise us all and release it on the same day Lion is available…

I remember it took a LOT of time to get PT7 ready for 10.5

10.5 was a PITA with just about every software I can remember. That was one reason I was so eager to move on to snow leopard.

Lion looks kind of dumbed down to me, but that might be a good thing as long as they don't take away any power user features. I'm hoping the transition from mobileme to icloud will be a little more graceful than the .mac to mobileme debacle.
