You may be the exception, but you're not alone. I also experience wrist pain using the Kensington Expert Mouse. In my case, it seems to be related to the general ergonomics of my own setup: chair height, desk height, monitor height, etc.

The situation was helped substantially by ditching the hard rubber wrist pad that comes with (and attaches to) the Expert Mouse and replacing it with one of those "bean bag" types that you can move around as you need.

I contacted their service and told them explicitly that I screwed it up and I just wanted to buy a replacement part, if possible. They shipped me a brand new one, no questions asked.
Similar experience here. One of the buttons stopped working on my Turbo Mouse. I called them, thinking I would need a replacement part or a new product. They sent me a brand new Turbo Mouse free of charge. This was years after I purchased it.

Another vote for Kensington. You might want to add an additional gel pad in front of it, too. Also, the ergonomics of how you sit at your workstation are important. You want your arm to be in a natural, relaxed position. In other words, no awkward reaching to a trackball on top of a keyboard, or anything like that.

If you've done real damage to your hand, you might be in trouble. If the problem persists, you might want to retrain yourself to also work with your opposite hand. It takes some time to get comfortable, but it's definitely doable. If you keep working in spite of pain, you may well be headed for surgery and a recuperation period. It's your choice.

The Kensington Expert Mouse is great.

OT:

I'll add to what Lee said about surgery and recuperation. I had to go through surgery to really get rid of the pain in my right wrist. I worked, played and practiced a lot on both guitar and piano and hardly took any notice to the growing pain in my wrist.
That is, until it got so bad I couldn't even lift a cup of coffee. They found three, large liquid-filled bags of crap* in my wrist. They took those out, I had a recuperation period of about 6 weeks where I gradually increased the workload on my right hand. I have never had problems since.
I only mention this because sometimes surgery is the only way to go.

* Not the appropriate medical term, but I'm merely an average norwegian.
