Dverb test pt 10.
Hi all.
I have a question about the deverb test on a pt 10 homebuild rig. I can get something like 160 Dverb 128samples buffersize then the tone starts to get distorted. But my CPUmeter says 55% usage. I havent done so much tweaking of windows 7 pro. Should i be able to get better performance and are there other bottlenecks to be aware of? My system is intel core I7 2600k 3,4ghz gigabyte ga-Z68X-UD3H 16 Gb Corsair vengeance ram 1600mhz intel SSDSA2CT040G3 System HD WDC WD3200BEKT media HD onboardsgraphics interface M-audio fasttrack Ultra USB thx in advance Chris |

Yep! And not to just benchmark rigs.

Re: Dverb test pt 10.
Dverb...............its not just for breakfast! So now that HD/Native is in use by many, how is it working out for recording a band with minimal latency during tracking? I have been told that HD/Native at the 128 buffer has less discernible latency(in the phones) than any firewire interface at 64. Would you say that's accurate? I am quite happy with my 003 setup, but would like to know if HD/Native is a viable upgrade(or should I look for a deal on a used PCIe HD3 setup? I can get going for around $3K with an ebay card and a used 96IO, or maybe add $600 and go with a used 192IO(not counting on jumping to 11 right away). Toss some opinions at me folks!

Re: Dverb test pt 10.
Albee,
Yes it's true. Latency while recording is not discernible at buffers of 64 or 32 samples at 44.1K/24 bit. I haven't even bothered to test at 128 but I'd say that latency is probably equivalent or less than my 002 at 64 samples. Since I only do music, mostly bands, I will never need more than 64 inputs (my current setup has 24 and I never use all of them). I sort of view the HDN route for music as the low cost upgrade path looking to the future. I build a new computer every 3 or 4 years for $1000. So, over 10 years I will build 3 computers and each generation will see phenomenal increase processing power. It's a personal preference for everyone as to whether they choose DSP or not. I'm just fine without it. I did decide to get a couple of new Black HD interfaces and all I can say is they sound very, very good. Hope this helps, Greg

Re: Dverb test pt 10.
Thanks for the insight there Greg. For sure, I know the 96IO is just the cheap way in, but better IO would be a future wish. I rarely need more than the 16 IO I have now, so I could add an HD 16 input unit in the future and move the 96IO to be my "extra" inputs My i7 950 rig is working well enough at this point, that it should go quite a few years giving me enough horsepower. In my reading, I seem to see conflicting reports on latency(why I am asking here) so keep the reports coming(yes, even bad ones).

Re: Dverb test pt 10.
So the burning question now(since everyone has ignored this since Greg's post) is, will HD/Native work well on my Gigabyte EX58A-UD3/i7 950 setup?

Re: Dverb test pt 10.
I would say yes as it's the same North and South Bridge Chipset as the newer X58-UD3R motherboard.
