You can set the processor scheduling to PROGRAMS rather than BACKGROUND SERVICES.
This really helped me with the slow screen redraws and the badly tracking meters. The reason I say that this may be half-assed is because of the performance hit you may or may not take as a result. I am running it this way just fine with no noticable difference in performance BUT it makes a bunch of difference with speeding up the graphics. YMMV. Just thought I would share. Eric
