Default Anyone a little worried that Waves has something up their sleeve?

I just upgraded to Waves Gold because it was $147 to do so.

Years ago, I purchased Mercury (which I sold a while back) and it was a substantial investment at the time.

In the past year I have purchased a lot of Waves plugs that I missed and a bunch simply because even though I didn't use them so much they were so cheap that it made sense even if I used them now and again.

It seems like they're blowing out most of their plugs at insanely low prices. While this has been a good thing for all of us buying them I can't help but wonder what the business model is.

I think part of it is competition from the lower end of the plugin market and the need to compete with better and cheaper plugs and part of it is probably the fact that on a lot of older products (like Gold, for example) the profit margin can be smaller because they have sold tons of this bundle for years and years.

I just can't help but wonder if they're planning something big - which may not be bad.

Nothing new. They've been doing that for as long as I can remember. Especially during the end of the year. Last year Mercury was as low as $1800. Last week or so Mercury was $2200. When I bought Mercury TDM 10 years ago it was listed over $10k. I paid around $4k. They had NAMM discounts, AES discounts and all kinds of sales and discounts back then too.

Mercury is listed as having 148 images on the Waves website, so an estimate of the plugins included.

If you bought each at $29 it would cost you $4292 ...

Advertising $29 or $49 per plugin isn't really a sale looking at the big picture.

You'll find out what they're up to next year when they send you the WUP notices.

It's just the basic function of capitalism, no need for alarm!

still $150 for gold is a great deal.....

I have a gold bundle and it doesn't make sense for me to upgrade....I don't want the plugs on the plat level...

But this $150 is and amazing deal....

Yep. It's just Waves marketing. You're not getting a "deal" by any means.

Waves runs great sales all year long. It is the way they compete. They also have added to each and every bundle over the years - with Mercury being by far the best one to own.

How can anyone say this is not a deal?? Gold for $199 is a great deal. A pretty full palette of plugs to mix with - EQs, Comps, delays, reverb, pitch correction, guitar sim, limiters, maximizers, channel strips, and combos of these. Sure there is WUP when things - systems and DAWs do big changes. That's the business model. Neither good nor bad. I can not think of any other classic bundle (or assemblage of plugins) that covers what Waves Gold does at even many times this price. FWIW the Waves TDM bundle (precursor to Gold) was my first bundle in 1998 - ~$700 as I remember for 4 plugins.

WUP is date based.
