Re: Dual DVI Video Card Suggestion
I'm using a NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT. Works great. You can get them on eBay for about $75. There are different versions, so make sure you get on that is for the 4.1 and 5.1 Macs.

Re: Dual DVI Video Card Suggestion
John,
Can you tell me more about your layout ? How many monitors do you want to view? 2 or..? One for the Edit Screen and One for the Mix screen or...? What monitors? Why stay with Gefen? The reason I ask is that I have DVI monitors on "The Dub Stage" with the equipment 50 ft away in the Equipment room and I could make some inexpensive suggestions that are rock solid!

Re: Dual DVI Video Card Suggestion

We run two HP LCD model LV2311 screens running at 1920 via DVI input, one for Mix and one for Edit windows. Cable distance is about 65 feet. When I first bought this setup I attempted a good quality 50 foot DVI cable to see if active extensions could be avoided, but the video quality was unusable. The Gefen fiberoptic extenders offer excellent video quality. It appears that a variety of dual DVI video cards, available for reasonable prices on eBay, will run in a 5,1 MacPro, so I'm optimistic I can simply carry over the Gefen system when the 5,1 MacPro is installed in the next ten days or so. This particular Gefen extender, good as I find it, maxes out at 1920. I would be open to moving to, perhaps, a single larger hi-res display, but I again need to contend with the transmission distance issue. The alternative is to put the "new" 5,1 MacPro in the control room, something I'd prefer to not do. Your thoughts, Marti? Many thanks, John Caldwell
