Home Studio Construction Advice?
First, I'm asking for forgiveness instead of permission to post this question on both the 001 and TDM forums. It looks like there are a lot of participants that are unique to each of those forums. Promise I won't do it again...
============================================== I'm in the process of designing/building a new house. The space I'm planning to build out as a home studio is a 10' x 14' room with a 6' x 8' walking closet. I'm planning on using the closet as the recording booth and the larger room as the control room. I don't forsee ever recording drums in this studio, just acoustic instruments (guitar, mandolin, fiddle, etc.). I will probably record some keyboard, but plan to do that in the larger control room since it will go direct and not be miked. Any advice would be appreciated in regards to... What to do with the interior walls, floor, ceiling of the recording room (I do plan to put a small window between the recording and control rooms); Any special advice for soundproofing the room during the construction phase of the house - I'm planning to install sound insulation in all walls and in the ceiling and floor of both the recording and control room; Cabling, patch bays, etc., between the recording room and the control room - anything I should consider doing while the house is under construction before the drywall in put in; Air conditioning in the recording room (how to make it as quiet as possible); Setting up the control room (I'm using a G4 and plan to be adding some outboard gear such as preamps, headphone amp, mixing board, etc.); Thanks in advance for any input. |

Re: Home Studio Construction Advice?
Also go to www.auralex.com
They have a great online booklet called Acoustics 101 which is very informative to the home studio builder. AND take advantage of their FREE acoustic consultation. All you have to do is download their form, sketch out your walls, ceiling, door placements etc. and fax it back to them. They'll have an acoustician fax you back suggestions for wall treatments etc. I'm a big fan of their 2" and 3" foam as well as the Lenyrds, and diffusers. Also, do a Google search on Studio Design. You'll find some interesting plans and suggestions.
