Default Midi mic pre control

Question about MIDI mic pre control.
I have three rooms sharing one 8 channel Grace mic pre. I'd like to be able to switch (easily) which system is controlling the mic pre. I thinking either a analog switch (I haven't been able to find a pre made midi switch, but I'm pretty sure I could McGyver something) or something fancy from 'Midisolutions.com'. The guy from MIDI solutions has asked if there is any reason the MIDI output from all three rooms should not be connected all the time. Does anyone know if this will be a problem? Or if anyone has a smart idea..
thanks

What kind of MIDI interface are you using in each room to send MIDI data to the Grace?

I wouldn't think having them all connected simultaneously would be a problem. Using a merge box (3x) may be a very simple, easy solution.

MOTU midi express and two MOTU fastlane interfaces.
So just the midi merge on the output right? It's pretty important that accidental level adjustments from the other rooms don't happen!
Thanks for responding.

If accidental level adjustments are a concern, then a switch would be the better way to go.

New you can get ones like:

http://www.philrees.co.uk/products/selector.htm

or use a programmable one like the MIDI Express XT (I think the MIDI Express is programmable, too..)

or go used with something like:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Kawai-Mav-8-Midi...=1218734367788

The outputs of each of your consoles/controllers would go into the MIDI interface/patchbay/switch and you would use that to control which console/controller has it's MIDI output routed to the Grace.

Awesome. Thanks. I've out a bid on the Kawai. I was looking for the phil res product you mentioned but I haven't had any luck with that. I really appreciate your help.
