Question laptop help

Hi all, I know this is a pain

but digidesign said for me to post as they have not tested pro tools on my system so don't know if it would work. I don't want to fork out loads of dosh to find it does'nt..............So.......

Has anybody used a sony VGN-NS11J with pro tools 7 or greater? the main concern is the chipset as it's fine with 4gb RAM.

It has vista 32 installed at the mo, though i'm going to change back to XP as currently I'm running Ableton 7 & it seems to screw up a lot (it's as if the proccessr struggles when using only a few vst's & pluggins).

Any help would be great.

Just not possible for me to go to mac yet (probs will next year or so, but just can't afford ((( )

Hope someone can help
:)

Some details on this computer are not easy to find. Could you please post a Sandra report on your system? What PT interface? You may at the very least need a separate qualified drive for audio, a qualified firewire controller, and disable WiFi.

Christy, I know you are desperate for assistance (you have posted the same question several times), but as mentioned in the other post, we need some more information.

Please follow these instructions from the General Troubleshooting post:
Quote:
=====

Note: To enable other users to help you, please include all of your system details when posting an issue to the DUC; Pro Tools hardware, Pro Tools software version, CPU, OS version, Motherboard make/model, chipset, amount of RAM, type of hard drives used, etc.

- Please - Use SiSoftware's Sandra Lite application to generate a full system profile:

www.sisoftware.co.uk

Under SiSoftware Sandra, click on "Download & Buy" to download the free Sandra Lite version or purchase other versions. After installing Sandra, click on the 'Hardware' tab and run the 'Computer Overview', then copy and paste into your post here on the DUC.

=====
We're also going to need more information about which plug-ins exactly and what other software you have installed, including version numbers.

Christy, can you be a little less vague? Exactly what does "screw up a lot" mean? And as has been asked "what plugins" are giving you issues?

Cheers guys, i know macs screw up too as i use them for teaching (just always read comments telling people to get a mac). current 'screw ups' (like i said proccesing probs, audio skips & clicks) & i'm hoping changing back to XP will help these issues.

Looking at the sandra repot myself i'm wondering if it's the hard drive, and if it would be better to get a firewire external (though i originally had a firewire audio card which you could hear the poccessor woking all the time, as in clicks and pops), if that would help what is a good reasonabley cheap 1 (or what should i be looking for?).

Vst's & pluggins used range hugely. NI stuff (massive, fm8, absynth, battery 3), Fabfilter timeless 2.

no retailers anywhere near me so would be v.difficult to travel to 1.
