Keep it out of the hands of every bedroom studio and Picture editor that wants to cut a real sound professional out of the loop. Hopefully at this price point it makes it worth while for a great developer to jump in.
Last time I bought a 1500 unwrap plug in, it was never updated.

I own 2 copies of TC unwrap. I assume that's the plugin you own. Done with those guys.

I also own DTS UpMix. The RTAS version is buggy and no AAX in sight ...$400 flushed. (Really like this plugin for upmixing full DME mixes)

Soundfield UPM. Lots of conversations with the developer about issues never addressed. I had high hopes for this one. I have no idea if this plug will ever make it to AAX...another $800 flushed perhaps?

I still believe that while popular in amongst our crowd this plugin wouldn't sell as well and for one of our favorite developers to take this on they would need a financial incentive.

Some well meaning audio professionals sell their services along with their gear at a price that is disrespectful to the audio community as a whole. We are all in this together and I am not a fan of the its all about me getting the job at any price mentality.

Now getting back on track.

Lets say we have petition with like 15 or 20 signatures on it and send it to Paul. The idea of paying $1,500 for the plugin is too much for most I assume?

I'll write the letter,

Hi Paul!

Would you write us an UpMix plugin? We have 20 people interested so far. We would like to pay you no more than $500 a piece. If we buy it from a dealer we know we can get it for 20% less. We assume the dealer would have to make something too. I guess iLok might want something for it. So $500 is really $400 and and you probably get $200 and need to pay iLok. I guess you need to pay for Internet bandwidth too because we will bug you non stop for updates for free. Oh yeah then you need to pay someone to update your website. Probably need to record a video about the new plugin. Wait, don't forget to take out some ads in the trades!

So when will you start writing the UpMix plugin that we think should cost next to nothing that you will make $50 after expenses from each copy? $1,000 goes a long way these days you know!

Can't wait to try it out Paul!

Signed,

You loyal but cheap customer base

...

I bet he is writing code now in expectation of all that cash rolling in.
