Default Not a valid audio volume

Hi,
I am running PT 8.0.1. Now all of the sudden, I can't use any of my lacie 500G rugged drives. I was just using them a few days ago!!
I get the message: Drive is not a valid audio drive. I have done everything I can think of....
Ff course the first thing was going into the workspace window.
I reformatted one of the drives.
I deleted the prefs, databases, digisetup, plist. I reinstalled protools.
Nothing works?
I have read so many threads.....
Can someone help me?

Hi,

Check permissions and privileges on the drive and the folders you create sessions on!

Right click / get info / sharing & permissions / click the lock to unlock / change privileges to read and write for all users.

Also make sure there are no illegal characters in the drive and folder names... ? £ / etc

Hi,
Thank you. I had done that already and that does not seem to make a difference either.

The only time that i saw this 'Not a valid audio volume' was on a HD system that a user installed Avid Media Tools(if i remember correctly).....
And something else to check if you are on an Intel Mac,is the drive format scheme
APM(Apple Partition Map) or GUID(Default scheme)

Hi,
I just spent last night and this morning upgrading up to 8.0.4. The problem went away....
I didn't see anything about this bug in the release notes for 8.0.1...
Glad I am persistent and finally figured this out before I spent tech support bucks!!
Thanks to the responders.

You didn't say what computer you have. I've had this problem using PPC Macs and a drive that was formatted using GUID partition mapping instead of Apple's. This option is available in Disk Utility. Intel Macs want to see GUID, but ProTools on PPCs won't let you record to it, or you'll get lots of errors trying!
