48k is my friend
I'm just sayin'.
I built my own rig and can record all the sessions I want at 48k. (M-powered) Anything higher and I run into the static problem. I am totally OK with 48k. Sounds great to me. I am just wondering if much of the problems that folks have is trying to record at 92k when they don't need it. More is not always better. Peace |

Sample rate conversion is worse than not having the extra resolution to begin with? Proof?

I have been recording at 48k and mixing to 44.1k for ten years. Have not heard these "artifacts" and "degraded sound quality" you speak of. |

Re: 48k is my friend
OK Thanks all. In that case I am going to stick with 44.1k as my standard. I just converted my work in progress all to that. Sounds great and still no static problems.
I wish the software had not have defaulted to 92k. This forum helped me figure out that that was the source of my static problems. |

Re: 48k is my friend
Just curious, what interface are you using? I know my Delta 1010L had this problem until I disabled C1E in the BIOS, and it took me months to find out what the issue was. A lot of m-audio products (I have read) have this issue. But I don't have the problem with my 2626 or my M-box micro (doesn't do 96k ) or my moble PRE (doesn't do 96k anyway.) Just a thought.

Re: 48k is my friend
And as a side note, I cannot tell the difference recording at 96K and converting (with dither) to 44.1 and just recording at 44.1 except that I do think that recording material at 96k sounds better when adding affects. Just the opinion of my ears.

Re: 48k is my friend
Delta Series Audiophile 2496
(I use a Mackie analog mixer for all my inputs and 2 audio channels in/out of the computer works fine for me.) I'll take a look in the bios to see what the setting is for C1E. But I am static-free now at 44.1k with all the tracks and inserts I want. |

Re: 48k is my friend
I only had problems at 96k myself. I record at 24/48 live and 24/96 in my studio and I am happy with the results. But 24/44.1 will give fine results IMO

Back on topic...I've got a couple of interfaces that I use. My Profire 2626 has only ever had the OP's problem when my CPU usage gets too out of hand...like the 85% range. I occasionally use either an M-audio Ozone, or USB Transit in 96k playback mode when I'm on the go and more frequently come across the problem. In the case of the latter devices, I usually have the session copied to my system drive (not reccomended), and because my laptop is no longer docked, all the helper programs for my touchpad and fingerprint reader are running in the background. My mobile devices are also USB instead of firewire and I've never done any of the digi recomended USB optimazations. I'm also not a fan of disabling harware like ethernet, wifi, or TV tuner device in my laptop. I had always just written off the distortion to the fact that I'm lazy when it comes to following the compatibility and optimazation guides. |
