trying to connect an effects unit w/002

i am trying to connect a outside compressor and/or an effects unit to the 002 rack. How do i connect it to the 002 in order to have effects on my mic while recording?

You can't. You would need to use a separate preamp before the compressor to acheive quality results.

Technically, you can do it pre-record with the compressor hooked up as an insert, and using an aux track for initial input bussing to an audio track, but that causes triple A/D->D/A->A/D conversion that most people view as being undesireable.

With the specs of today's recording gear you don't really need to compress pre-recording though, just set it so that it doesn't clip, and if it needs compressing, do it later with plugins (or outboard, if you want to).
