Update Plan Reinstatement
I just bought a new perpetual licence subscription from a reseller.
As avid states that these are available 'while stocks last' I assume it will no longer be possible to update this licence a year from now! This really sucks IMO. I am not personally that bothered about staying up with the latest updates (hence my username!) but it is necessary every now then as operating systems become outdated. I've already pumped a significant amount of money into using pro tools over the years ( far more than any other software) - For my personal level of use I could not justify spending a further £30 each month compared to other options out there, not every user is making a career out this. A perpetual licence should always be an option. I really hope avid change their mind. Last edited by Protools8matt; 03-02-2020 at 03:25 PM. Reason: typos |

Re: Unable to renew Pro Tools Subscription through Avid Webstore
No, you got it wrong.
Active update plan can be "renewed" while it is active (and I assume there is some kind of grace period after that) but if you let your update plan lapse, Avid no longer sells "reinstatement" plans to get you up to date.

Re: Unable to renew Pro Tools Subscription through Avid Webstore
There is no such thing. It is one of these:
Former means you can launch PT even if your update plan has been expired. Latter means once your subscription is over you cannot launch PT. Both mean you only get updates as long as your update plan or subscription is active.

Re: Unable to renew Pro Tools Subscription through Avid Webstore
I understand what's going on, apologies if I worded my rant a little poorly! Yes I bought a reinstatement plan not a subscription licence.
Once all the resellers stock of reinstatement plans are gone then this licence will have to be renewed every single year or ultimately become redundant. Paying annually for a product is in my eyes at least a subscription of a sort, even if not the 'subscription licence' option hence my (bad) choice of words. I really have no need to update the plan & pay out £200 every single year, or pay for a subscription, I'd just like to update it once in a blue moon along with my OSX, ie via a reinstatement plan which will not be possible in the future. The jump I just made from 12.5 to pro tools 2019 has really brought nothing new to the table I am personally interested in, I just want pro tools to still work with whatever operating system I'm using. Re: Unable to renew Pro Tools Subscription through Avid Webstore
Avid policies are what it is.
If you choose to do so, you can stop updating after the year of updates paid and save 200 a year by doing so. After three years you have saved for new license that also gives you another year of updates. Or you can keep paying 200 a year so you don't need to make a bigger payment after three years of saving. Either way, same money. Paying yearly will give you updates though.
