Default Mac Book Pro and external disk?

Is it better to use a external disk with the firewire 800 or the chained through firewire 400 with a Mac Book Pro and a Profire 2626?

I use external HDD on FW400 port, and my interface in FW800 with a FW800 to FW400 lead.

it technically is the same either way. there are no performance benefits to putting your drive and interface on separate built in fw ports. the fw800 and fw400 port are on the same buss on the macbook pro. the only way to put your drive and interface on separate busses is to get a fw expresscard 34. or, you could go with an esata expresscard 34, which is even better for your hard drives.

hope this helps..

i should add, because the built in ports are on the same buss, using a fw400 device defeats any benefits of the fw800 spec. any fw800 device will be operating at the fw400 spec when plugged in at the same time as a fw400 device.

Hi,

I see the digi pages says audio has to be recorded and played from a separat drive, not the main drive with your OS. How important is this? I use a macbook pro and use so far no external disk. What´s the "known problem" with this?

Siig looks good but it´s not easy to get in europe.

What about Sonnet?

You would have to check shipping to Germany.
