Only apple can tell I think. The mac pro trashcans had a serious issue with the graphics cards failing as well.

The components are so jammed in these macs thermal concerns are probably the norm.

Your graphics card is also under powered for pt 2019 imo.

The fans go: ''Full tilt boogie'' when I am scrolling through 'Tumblr' or 'Tumbex' especially, when the page contains loads-and-loads of 'tiny gifs'

Yeah the fans go 'Full-on Toasty'?? (Fans do not engage when I change tabs. However when I open the same tab again... Fans go full tilt boogie!)

Just this minute found 'that' out.

Basically, the fans blare out heat and noise - with the same intensity. Same as this GUI situation really!

That's CRAZY!

The reason I mention playing YouTube vids is at least on my wife's 2010 Mac mini when playing a bunch of vids the whole machine gets very warm and kicks the fan up in speed.

Yes, it is CPU intensive.. however in this case we are guessing that GPU is failing

I know the mid 2011 27 inch iMacs had an issue with heat and the video cards failing. So much so Apple had an official replacement deal going. Sad thing with mine (if you research back in time here on the DUC for my trials & tribulations) because I got it as a refurb and didn't have the problem until after the replacement deal ended I had to try and get the vid card replaced myself. One of the heat generators in that machine was the 7200 rpm system drive which sits right next to the video card assembly. Keep in mind this was when there were three fans in the case - I think they're down to just one fan now.

Looks like you're going to need a new video card. Still under AppleCare?

NO. But, this will be covered. Like I said in earlier posts: My 1TB 'Flash Storage' completely failed two months ago (luckily I have an external drive), and apple replaced this free of charge.

We have different laws over here in the UK.

*Asking musicman691 very courteously*: '' Are you absolutely sure I need a new video card? ''

That's what it looks like. The only way to really know is to take it to a Genius Bar (make an appointment) and have them take a look at it. Better to do it now before it completely fails.

Just wanted to prove to myself that this is a definite ‘GPU’ problem…

1. I have watched YouTube videos all afternoon and the iMac never made a sound, No heat, no noisy fan. NOTHING whatsoever!

2. Then… I went on Google maps..! '‘WOW, I’m telling you’' after zooming in to ‘Street view’ and zooming out (Aerial view) more-or-less for a minute, I thought the iMac was going to 'blow-up’ The noise it made was unbelievable and, the heat from the back vent was ‘literally’ blazing.

3. Exactly the same situation with Tumblr and Tumbex pages (static/dynamic or gif images), i.e.: ‘Noisy blaring fan’ and ‘blazing hot air’

So… YouTube is: CPU intensive and the others (including the Pro Tools GUI) are: GPU intensive?

Would I be correct to assume this? Or is everything I have mentioned (above), CPU intensive, but, the GPU function only applies to number 2, and 3, as well as Pro Tools?

Just want to get something straight in my head.

Thanks
