stem recording without latency
Up until this last project, we've been using a PT HD 10 rig with HD|Accel hardware for our re-recording, print mastering, and monitoring. That's been working fine, but on this last project, that rig was giving us some attitude (unrelated) so we were using an iMac (OS 10.12.6) and PT HD 12.6 with an MBox Pro 3. I can't get the stems and the mix to re-record (or monitor through the tracks in input) in sync. They all play back fine, and one track at a time will record/monitor correctly, so we worked around it for the mix by using auxes and only re-recording the mix as a reference of what we'd done.
We are using delay compensation, but not low latency monitoring (which doesn't work with surround paths, but also doesn't solve the problem in a stereo-only test). The MBox Pro is locked to word clock, but neither S/PDIF nor internal sync helps the problem. The print master can't work that way, though, without it taking at least 5x as long. I'm switching back to the HD|Accel rig for now (the unrelated problem is fixed), but I want to work this out before we plan our upgrade path on this computer. |
