Default New CPU

I've been having problems with the latest versions of Pro Tools,.. and I've tried everything I could find to resolve the issues,. however, the only thing I can find is that PTs does not like AMD. So I am now shopping for an Intel CPU, and MB combo.

Has anyone had experience with the Intel Core i7-8700K Coffee Lake 6-Core 3.7 GHz processors? I can't seem to find much info if this is a good choice or not, so I'm hoping someone can chime in here!

upon looking up Best CPU choices for PRo Tools 2018,.. I found an article but all the I5 and I7s they are recommending are older, different socket, and speced Procs,.. I just want something that will keep my studio up and running for the next 4 or 5 years.

Any info is greatly appreciated!

Yes,. I have not ordered new system yet.

The issues I am having,. if I open System usage meter inside PTs,.. the processor usage is bouncing like crazy,.. up to 100%,. then causing clicks and pops. This is not normally the case. I've ran this system for many years and the usage is normally very solid,. and rarely went above 30-50%, when using HUGE projects with tons of plugins.

As well, as the processor spikes, when the spikes are happening,. Pro Tools seems to freeze up when opening the files,. Ie: loading tracks. 8 out of 10 times,. Pro Tools freezes up and crashes.

It seems intermittent,.. when it seems fine,. tracks load instantly,.. and processor is solid usage as it was in the past,. but then it freaks out and does the same thing again.

I can open about 2 projects and then the 3rd project will crash,.. and PTs will not open again until I reboot PC.

I had a client here for a couple of hours, and needed to Reboot PC 5 times, very unacceptable!!!

I've tried everything I could think of, including updating from Win 7 to Win10,. and then a format and fresh install of Win 10,.. nothing but PTs installed, and I got the same results. I tried stress testing my ram, as well as removing some,. nothing stopped the issues! Support told me that AMD processors are not supported, so they cannot help me,.. as well,.. read articles about how AMD may work fine one version and then become a living hell in other versions of PTs,. which is why I'm going to try new Intel CPU!

I had been running 64bit Win 7 Ultimate, when the issue started,. but now Win10 pro. I've gone thru all the Avid Optimizations as well as Bios optimizations.. and read up on every option I didn't know, to see what would be best for Pro Tools. This was also done a long time ago, but I double checked everything when I came across issue! I didn't change anything from how it was when it was working fine! Oh,. and yes,. I tried running as admin as well! THank you for tryinig to help!!!! has been a long week trying to diagnose,. and it's been impossible to get any work done!!! Suprised i have any hair left,.. lol!

PT runing as admin ? Double check that !

Also do a check of your Motherboard ( chipset , storage etc ) drivers and your Video card drivers too. Update them all.

Yes,. I've updated all drivers to the latest,.. I downloaded all fresh ones to make sure they were correct for Win10,.. My mb does not list any chipset drivers for Win10,.. Gigabyte support told me that WIN10 takes care of those.

yes on the admin! :)
