A8VE Deluxe
Athlon64 FX 55 (939)
1 GB Corsair Pro LL RAM
PCIE Radeon X600
old fashioned PATA HDD's

Using on-board firewire and Sarotech Hardbox, i'm getting 32+23 on both with BIOS and Windows "off the shelf"

Hmmm...I was kinda thinking this system could do 32+32 or thereabouts...maybe with some tweaks...

I was thinking the same thing but wasn't sure of the drain PTLE 6.7 is putting on us here yet. The K8V with the 3400+ has been getting 32+18 on 6.7 which is a major drop from 6.1 which was 32+24-28.

Hey Micah, I finally did the DaveC thing and recorded 31 audio tracks with the suggested plugins for 60seconds. Dex002

Okay, so the A8V-E works well, this is great news. I'm hesitant to put money into a new computer with an older chipset. I think that the 939, 940 format is the way to go, it looks like we just need to wait for the right chipset. This MOBO looks great, I have yet to find one for sale is Canada though, but it won't be long!! I'm still interested to see how the Nvidia nForce4 SLI chipset works, it has received great reviews and looks like the next "goto" chipset, unless the Via performs as well.

Hi Allen and everyone,

Well I went down to my friendly neighbourhood computer people the other day, with specs to have a new computer built ala Allenstein, and the guy said he has had 4 Asus motherboards returned in the last month, and now refuses to deal with them. I mean absolutely will not do it. He thinks Microstar boards are much better.

My question are 1) Are the mobos that are used in audio apps somehow different or special (so that
I can tell the guy that all Asus mobos are not created equal), and

2) Are there any Microstar motherboards that will work for our application?

Anybody?

Right on, thanks so much for the info, now all you gotta do is build yourself an AMD system so you can get a 32+18 DaveC count! I just wanted to know how the intel systems did. Hope all is well.

That is a big gamble. I recommend sticking with the Asus boards for compatiblity with PTLE.

Thanks for your reply, Allen. The question now remains- do I gamble, or do I go elsewhere to get my computer built...
