Monitoring with inserts?

Hey all...i'm wondering if i'm missing something or just delusional

Is it possible to monitor an audio track during playback with an insert on it? For instance, I want to try out a guitar part with the drums i recorded, but i want to hear how it will sound with Amplitube running. But when i hit play, the plug stops. I've tried it with the track armed or not armed. It only seems to work when i press record..

I don't have low-latency monitoring on either...what have i missed?
