Well, it's a digital output. You need a digital spidf cable into another unit that has a digital coaxial in. What are you trying to use it with?

I'm trying to input to a cd recorder with optical, and coaxial inputs. I have tried both of those outputs on my 003, and get no signal reading on the cd burner. I switched my outputs in the mix window to spdif, and also made sure my input selector on the cd recorder was set to digital, still I have nothing. I'm new to protools, so I am very greatly for any help. Thanks

Set(in Pro Tools) SPDIF to RCA and use a real SPDIF cable(not half of the red/white pair from the old cassette deck). Is your PT session at 44.1K sample rate(it may have to be for this to work).

Time to start reading the manual. Go into Hardware Setup and learn what is what there. You can set the optical connection to ADAT or SPDIF. You want it set to ADAT(so the RCA port will be SPDIF. Then go to the IO setup page and click on the OUTPUT tab. The grid represents the available connections. Normally, you can hit the DEFAULT button and you should see a full grid with 18 outputs. 1-8 are the 8 analog outputs of the 003. 9-16 go out via the lightpipe(ADAT) connection and 17,18 go out via SPDIF. Depending on the sample rate, its possible that you will only see 10 outputs(1-8 analog and 9&10 on SPDIF). You also need to use a genuine SPDIF digital cable for the connection to the CD recorder. Lots of folks try to use one side of a red&white pair from an old cassette deck/stereo system and those cables are not the same(although sometimes will work to some degree).

Thanks, for the info. I have read the manual, but it doesn't tell you how to do anything. It just tells you where stuff is.
