Default Instantiate Plugins while playing back?!!

OK, so I finally got my shiny new HD3 rig all set up, etc. It seems cool thus far, but I've run into a most disturbing issue:

1) I am using this rig to replace my home setup, which was Pro Tools LE 6.4. In this setup, for a number of years, I have been able to run maximum track count, and instantiate RTAS plugins WHILE playing back (even hoggy ones like verbs, L2 etc) with NO hiccups whatsoever. Never batted an eyelash at me, not once. Loved the [bleep] out of it, esp when compared to the OS9 TDM System at the main studio I work at.

2) So now, even when using RTAS plugins, there is a 1-8 second delay when trying to do the same thing (instantiate plugins during playback), AND there is a loud "pop" each time I do it.

Someone please tell me this is not the norm. When I called the vendor he acted all perplexed, said he'd never heard of anyone trying to <gasp> instantiate plugins on the fly without "properly setting up the audio" first. It seems totally ridiculous that HD would have a harder time with this than a freakin mbox and my Dual 2.5 - especially on RTAS plugs - should be the same - and I'm hoping it's user error somewhere. It would truly suck to have to completely change and radically slow down the way I mix after droppng 15 large.

Digi? Others?

You have got to be dry humping me. This is just not acceptable. At all. If this truly is status quo, can someone give me a technical reason why LE does this better than TDM, with the same plugins?

the TDMII bussing architecture would be a fair guess. sending audio from the drive out to TDM-land and back.

ummmmm, ever tried to edit tape while it's playing?

I cant even put plugs on or apply fades when my sessions are playing (os9 tdm 5.1). I'm over it.

I spoke with Digi and they say it's just the way it is. It sucks ass, really, as I HATE having to stop playback and it just seems really stupid, but i'm sure it sounds silly to those of you who have not had the luxury of instant plugin instantiation. Yeah, I get a lot more out of HD than LE, duh. But this needs to be fixed.
