buffering / latency question
Hello,
I have a question about the latency time when setting the buffer size. According to my ProTools guide book, when I set the buffer size (in the Playback Engine) to 512 samples, I get a latency time of 10.7 ms (at 44.8 KHz sample rate). In addition, there is a digital-to-audio conversion time of 1.5 ms. So when I am recording my guitar, I hear other existing tracks at 12.2 ms later, and then my quitar track gets recorded at 13.7 ms (adding an audio-to-digital conversion time of 1.5 ms) later? Is this correct, or does the ProTools software compensate for this and bump the new guitar track up to be more in sinc with the other tracks? Or should I move the new guitar track up (towards the beginning of the song) by 13.7 ms? thanks, John
