Blank Project

Is there a way to fix a blank project? The session wont load unless I go into finder and open from the source and all the backups are blank. I have a time machine but the project isn't there on any of the backups from what I can tell. Is there anyway i can retrieve the project/prevent this from happening in the future? This has happened to all my projects so far.

Your post is a bit vague.

When you say blank do you mean it has nothing in the session or does it have the tracks loaded but no audio in the session? If the latter, was the audio stored on an ext. drive that perhaps isn’t connected? Some more info would help to try and diagnose the issue.

Also, you say it’s happened to all your projects. All of them? You’ve not been able to create any project, save it and then open it an continue from where you were?

The project looks like it would if I had just created a new project. There is no tracks or anything in my clip list. it was all saved to my computer and the cloud. I have been able to close and re-open projects though eventually I would stop being able to open the project and the entire session would be gone.

You’re still not giving us a lot of info though. What version of PT? What OS? Computer specs? Etc. etc.

Have you tried trashing preferences? What have you tried so far?

Sorry, I am very new to pro tools. I am using the current version of PT: 2019.12. I am using Catalina 10.15.3. My computer is the 2018 MacBook Pro. I have not tried anything yet besides making sure I close the program before it automatically closes as a preemptive measure. I have not tried trashing preferences. It usually wipes my progress after the 3rd-6th time opening/closing it.

I'd start with trashing your preferences first.

Go to User/Library/Preferences and delete the Avid folder and then scroll down to com.avid and delete the handful of files that start with that prefix.

Restart your machine and try again with a new session and see how you go.
