Default Recording to FAT32!!! Help! urgent

I have a LaCie d2 triple interface hard drive.
I want to record to it.
I have formatted it FAT32 but I can not record to it.
When I try to create a session, it says "Session must be on an audio recording volume".
So, does this mean PT LE can not record to a FAT32 disk?

I have a powerbook g4 and an AMD machine with Windows XP.
I do not want to use MacDrive.
What are my options for cross-platform recordings?
I have a recording tomorrow.
Can anybody help?

Well I know Mac OS X can read NTFS formatted drives, and I know OS X 10.4 can read/write to them no problem... now does that mean PT can record to it on the mac side? I don't know but you could try it out.

What he's after is a cross platform compatible drive that protools will record to on the mac.

Normally what I see is the drive being partitioned with a mac os formatted partition and a ntfs or fat32 partition. then you record your session to the mac partition, copy it over to the windows partition and then move the drive to the pc... kind of lame i know but it works.

Have you tried recording to the drive formatted as NTFS?

Try going to WorkSpace and making the drive record ready by changing the "T" to an "R"
and make sure on your Mac you make the session PC compitable when you start a new seesion!
Good Luck!

You can't record to a non-native formatted drive on either platform.

Your AMD machine will be able to record to it but your G4 wont as stated by Rail.

My Lacie drive is formatted to FAT32 for transfers between my Mac and PC and sometimes I will work off of it with the PC. I wish I could do the same with the G4. That would be cool.

This is really lame. There are no real solutions for this kind of problem.
I usede MACDrive on WinXP but I swore it off after it asked me,
"There are two different partitions in this drive. MAC and PC.
And I chose to delete one and it deleted everything.
I will not use MacDrive again.!!!!

After that, I realized that there is no real solution except to record it into internal drive (which is not nice)
then burn the session on to a DVD. Then copy it over to the PC.
That is what I did but performance was not so happenning when I recorded into internal drive.
a Digi's compato dox says "FAT32 is NOT supported for file transfers".
So what choice do I have really?
Just get a newer OS so I can write to an NTFS drive?

That is lame.

Not 'supported' but Transfering files and sessions between Mac and PC using a FAT32 formatted drive does work. I just did it today using my Lacie Firewire drive. The session was recorded to the drive using PT on a PC and then transfered to the internal audio drive on the G4.
