How much longer is Pro Tools Expected to support Digi 002s and 002rs
I noticed that the original mbox is no longer supported on 8.0.3. Are there any plans to end support with digi 002s? just curious...its just makes me wonder.
not a whole lot of people still use the original mbox i guess though... |

My guess is that anyone who has real information can't say, so don't expect anything other than innuendo and conjecture.. What is working for us is the fact that they still sell 003 devices and they are the same in many important ways. When they release the 004 and it uses a LightPeak connection instead of FireWire, then we will need to worry....

until the 00x family has a multi client shell I don't foresee the 002/003 being dropped

The longer it's supported, the longer until I go Postal once it's dropped.
I got my 002R MANY years after it was first released, with a Factory bundle. I could not afford a hardware update. And if I was forced to, it would be an MBox Micro or similar, just enough to run any new software.

Re: How much longer is Pro Tools Expected to support Digi 002s and 002rs
Conjecture say its should be supported for a while. its not radically different from the 003.
Where Digi to introduce a new platform like a native version with new hardware that could change as they would conceivably shuffle the whole line up. The MBox was dropped because it used different drivers from the MBox2 series and had gotten to the point that that it was going to be too difficult to maintain in the future. I have a 002 and don't want to see it dropped but regardless of when I bought it Digi will be looking at when they introduced it and how much it will cost to maintain when they calculate whether or not to keep it.

Re: How much longer is Pro Tools Expected to support Digi 002s and 002rs
I can see FIREWIRE being dropped in favour of USB 2.0 or USB 3.0.
The ELEVEN RACK is USB 2.0 - 5 years behind every other Audio Interface!! I would be surprised if DIGI ever make another Firewire Audio Interface especially as Apple have dropped it to a certain degree. What that means for DIGI 002 and Mbox PRO is anybody's guess......
