Default Compact Selected Recovery

Is it possible to recover data lost after a "compact selected"?

A "save session as" was done to a 3 song session and one of the songs was manipulated further. The engineer thought this made an entire copy of all the audio files, fades, etc. which it does not. He then deleted the other two songs, did a "clear unused" and a "compact selected", thinking the other songs would still show up in the original session...which they do not (nor does anything else for that matter). I tried Data Rescue and Disc Warrior, but neither found any of the lost tracks. I know there is probably no hope, but I wanted to explore all options before HE has to tell the band "sorry guys, the power went out while I was backing up your stuff" or some similar lie...and we have to give them their money back or offer them free studio time. I thought he / we were off the hook, because the band was initially very happy with the mixes, but they have recently brought up the idea of a re-mix. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
