Default Absentia DX -- New Software From Todd-AO

I heard about this new stand-alone audio restoration app over on Gearslutz. It's from Todd-AO and is cheap. I ran some audio from a particularly troublesome project thru it and here are the results. I'm actually quite impressed. It did a fair job of attenuating camera noise without obliterating the dialog. Keep in mind, this is EXTREMELY BAD AUDIO I'm dealing with here. LOL.

Original Audio
Cleaned Audio

And here are a few sonograms from two different parts of the audio. You can see that is has left the useable frequencies largely unscathed.

I'm pretty impressed. It's especially interesting given that it's only $50.

Do you have iZotope RX?

Granted, more money, but vastly superior .... IMHO.

I do have RX Advanced, but honestly I kind of like what this is doing better, as a first pass. Granted, it's not a complete solution, but I'm finding it easier to do further cleaning, after passing thru Absentia first.

Absentia DX outperforms RX in the hum removal category.

The newer features such as doppler removal and crickets removal are also very good.

As a first pass I use ABDX for hum and tick removal - add to that the new phase alignment, and this plugin is a no brainer. Perfect for batch processing.

The subscription price is also really worth it as they've been adding features on a regular basis.

Interesting news on the phase alignment.
Has anybody used it and compared it to AutoAlignPost?

Yes! They both work similarly as far as I can tell. I haven’t done a side by side comparison on the exact same audio though. I believe Absentia will be introducing it as an AAX feature soon, right now it’s available only in the standalone app.

I use Absentia, and it is great. Always getting new updates.
Perfect for batch repairing a lot of files, or just one clip, especially for doppler vehicles.
