Default Maverick & protools 11

My Macbook is asking me if I want to update to Maverick but I was told by avid awhile back to watch out for updates. I even signed up at Avid to be notified when they update Protools and the latest version of Apple's operating system. Never was notified. Avid actually told me to not updated it.I really don't want to if it's going to mess with my Protools 11. I have a feeling that has been discussed on here. I searched and couldn't find the topic. Thanks in advance.

I suggest you don't upgrade right now but instead continue reading compatibility documents and such, until you can be reasonably sure you can do it. Mountain Lion is supported and works very well so what's wrong with it?

FWIW, DON'T UPGRADE the operating system. If you want to run Mavericks, then backup your system, wipe the hard drive empty, install a clean Mavericks, and then install your software. That way you shouldn't experience much trouble.

Mavericks is compatible with ProTools 11. I have upgraded three production machines to Mavericks and ProTools 11 everything is fine. I did not wipe the system and start over, I simply upgraded from the previous version to Mavericks everything went smoothly. Naturally, you will want to clone your system drive before you make any of these changes.

My experience was very much different. Clean install and everything was fine.

A clean install is never a bad idea… sorry to hear you had too much trouble!

If you use Spectrasonics softwares (Omnisphere, Trilian or Stylus...), you may want to wait for a while
I've had issued with knobs and sliders freezing, other users also have had the same issues.

I reverted to a clean install with Mountain Lion and all is back to normal.

As the post above me said, I would WAIT a while longer as there seem to be a few important issues with interfaces and other things in Mavericks. There really is no need to update to 10.9.1 yet and as 10.8.5 works great why risk that.

I wont update our Macs anytime soon since they work as stable as ever now.

Others might disagree but as we only use our Mac computers for Music and Pro Tools we have no use for the "bling" that Mavericks introduces so we are set for now

Whatever you decide Best Of Luck
Christopher
