Default Strip Silence Question.

I have an audio track of some on talking that I would to use "Strip Silence" to help clean it up.

The track is about 53 minutes long.

When I pull up strip silence it does not place any markers in the track.

Moving the strip sliders does nothing.

If I push extract, separate or strip. I get
Quote:
Strip Silence requires an audio selection.
There is only one track in the session and it is not video.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Did you actually highlight the track with the selector?

You have to highlight the region or a section of the region, not the track..

Thumbs down Re: Strip Silence Question.

i think this is one of the new wonderful bugs of 8.0.1. i need strip silence desperately for my work and this is killing me too. my method is go into slip mode, set the hand tool to object mode and grab a region. now it will not show any of the strip markers so i have no flipping idea what i'm doing. it will still strip with whatever you set it to, but good luck sitting there trying random settings.

Maybe it depends on track color? I mean, if you're getting the message that no audio is selected, then you just need to select the audio. But if you can strip silence but can't see in advance what is going to be stripped, maybe changing track color would help?

For the OP, how about just using a gate instead of stripping to dead silence? Unless you're removing the space between, you need some room tone. Dead silence between lines sounds fake, and that's worse than some noise.

Unhappy Re: Strip Silence Question.

not to hijack away from the ops post, but we are trying to do the exact same thing with dialogue. everytime i grab a region with the above method i don't get any error messages, and it will strip, i just can't see any strip points. i did some experimenting and apparently you can select the region with the regular hand or the scissorhand and it will show the markers, but not with the object hand. it doesn't matter what the track color or order is. i tried it in several projects and it didn't work correctly.

i couldn't take it anymore and had to go back to 8.0 cs3. i have no problems anymore and the crappy horizontal scrolling thing is fixed too.

system info:

early 2008 macpro
10.5.8
now on ptle 8.0 cs3
