Default Replacement for 003 with Rosseta 800

I have been using my 003 console with my Rosetta 800 for a while now.
It is hooked up via adat cables and the 003 is only used for the faders and to get the Rosetta into the mac via adat/firewire

Since the 003 only lets me work at 48 for my sample rate what can I use with this setup to allow to use higher sample rates. I would consider going with or without faders

Thanks

Any interface with SMUX is what you would need(MOTU 828 Mk3, Focusrite Saffire LS56, etc). The real question(for me anyway) is; do you REALLY need higher sample rates, or are you suffering SR envy? As good as 96K sounds in DIRECT comparison, a well-recorded 48K project is better than a crap-recorded 96K project(something I just had to deal with) Good techniques make a bigger difference that higher sample rates(how many hits were done on 16 bit ADAT machines)

You are probably right. No one complained about anything but a client asked. This is my at home setup as I do have access to higher rates at work. Even then I rarely work above 48k. I just don't like the limitation

There are a couple of other advantages to 96kHz, though; (1) you might be able to achieve lower roundtrip latency, depending on your host system and (2) your plugins might sound better.

I would check out the MOTU 828mk3 if you don't need a load of bundled pre-amps. For the price, it's great, and the drivers are very stable.

Thanks

I am good with pre-amps Avalon 737B, Daking mach IV, DBX 376

How will it make my plugins maybe sound better?

If I thought it would really help me in the future I might explore looking for something other wise I will sit tight.

The short answer is; because.

The longer answer is that your are processing at a higher resolution and that might result in lower aliasing and phase artifacts. It depends though; some plug-ins up-sample internally (or have a switch/setting).

There is some good information on the internet showing that some plug-ins do some nasty things at 48kHz and lower. Some very expensive plug-ins.

See this thread. It's huge. It's heady.

If you want to buy a spare 003r, just in case, let me know. I have one collecting dust.

Default Re: Replacement for 003 with Rosetta 800

Albee1952 If I get something with SMUX does that mean I can use the Rosetta 800 for 16 channels.
With the 003 I can only use 8 with the Rosetta convertors and 8 with the 003 for input at a time.
For output and mixing the Rosetta handles all the DA conversion.
My 003 needs a need ADAT connector and I think I will fix it and sell it and go the no fader route for two reasons.
1, I need the room at home.
2, I am working at more studios that have different desks and some are all in the box and it will force me to get better at my keyboard skills instead of just using the 003 interface.

Thanks

Take a look at this gear
http://www.frontendaudio.com/RME-AES...-Sy-p/3448.htm
You could connect your Rosetta via AES/EBU instead of ADAT lightpipes. and it let's you work at any sample rate you wish.

Regards
