Talkback Mic?? what plugin

Folks.....I still cannot get the talkback mic to work right. I'm doing something wrong or maybe using the wrong Plugin as the gate. The set up work backwards.....when i hit play the mic comes on, and when i stop playback the gate kicks in and the mic goes off

I've recorded the Sig-Gen tone to an audio track (2 measure & Ctrl-D to save HD space)
I've used an Aux track for TB-mic input and inserted the digi-rack Gate on insert A.
I've bussed the Sig-gen output(via BUS 8) to the Key Input of the Gate.

What do i correct?

You're close, very close. Use a compressor, not a gate. A gate opens at a threshold, a compressor can be set to CLOSE at a threshold.

Set the comp to fast attack and release, low threshold, high ratio.

I just use a MONO AUX trak and go into the DIGI mic input 1. when I am not using it, I hit the MUTE button. Nothing records to it. The only thing you need to worry about is to delete it when you bounce the track. IT WILL PICK UP THERE.

also, I hate it that you have to use a MIC input for a talkback. I am trying to figure a cheap way to get an old HIGH SCHOOL click to talk mic. Run it to a CHEAP preamp in into the headphone chain with a true bypass involved. That way iy is ONLY in the phones and does not use a mic pre on the 002.

I will let you know what I develope!

Rail....i did read that post i used the COMPRESSOR/GATE cause that's what i read......lol But i understand know.


Doc.... i could use one of the inputs on my Behringer 1602 line mixer..........but it may not have either gain for the mic......i'll try to see what works best.

The c-control can even be setup so you can press a pedal on the floor to talk back instead of using the button on the c-control itself.

The Presonus Central Station can accept a mic input or use the built in mic and use a footswitch to operate the talkback. Its definitely more expensive but very much worth mentioning.

As for the C Control. I could not figure out how to set it up in my studio so that I could take advantage of the talkback. I have all my sound sources hooked into my digital mixer (digi, cd player/computer, 2 keys, drum machine, tape deck, etc). I use a Power Play Pro Headphone amp that has only one set of In's. I'm pretty sure I could hook things up a better way, but I have yet to stumble accross it. Lazy!
