Default budget?

Any rule of thumb for audio post rates on independent films?

Indies are no different than studio films, inasmuch as you still have dialog and sound editorial/design, ADR, Foley and Mixing. On indies there's just much less time to do it in. Indies are (normally) less demanding in terms of the scope-of-work, so the time it takes automatically gets knocked down. You're also (probably) not going to be doing multiple temp mixes for multiple audience preview screenings, and that's often a sizeable chunk of change on a studio film.
The simple answer is, figure out how long the film will take to complete and multiply that by the rate: x$ per week of editorial, x$ per hour/day on the ADR & Foley stages, and x$ per hour/day for mixing, fixes, printmastering, M&E, etc. As far as editorial rates are concerned, refer to to the Motion Picture Editors Guild for the editorial pay scale as a starting point.

Hope this helps, good luck, and don't sell yourself cheap!

best,

Joe
