Default Pro Tools 48khz session playback at extremely fast speed

Hello,

I'm hoping someone can help me here. I've been a Pro Tools user for several years but my home system is doing something strange. Every time I try to create a new session with the sample rate at 48 khz (most of my work is for video/film) the playhead moves about 20 times the speed it should, no exaggeration. It will 'play' through a 3 minute long clip in about 4 seconds, with no audio coming through.

If I simply create a 44.1 khz session, then the playback is at normal speed.

This occurs both when there is NO media in a session AND if I open older session files that I have.

I'm hoping it's something glaringly obvious that I have missed, please help!

Cheers
Alex

Yes amagras, spot on! Focusrite Scarlett 18i6 usb 2.0 connection. Is this a drive failure/problem? How did you guess that?

You're right, I should've listed my specs:

i74790k 4.00GHz
Gigabyte Z97X-UD5H
Windows 7
32GB RAM
Pro Tools 11 - latest update

Pro Tools installed on internal SSD and media is on a separate internal SSD.

I read that on your signature. There are several discussions over here about Focusrite Scarlett driver issues with sample rate on Windows, try a quick search and you'll get plenty information to start with. Good luck!

Not sure if this helps, but make certain that Windows is NOT using the Focusrite as its default playback device(Sound Properties)

Hey Albee,

I've had it set to the default for 5+ years without issue. What makes you think that would be the issue?

Thanks for the response though, i'll give it a go anyway

The issue is Windows grabs the interface first and won't let go of it. I would NOT want to have system bleeps & bloops coming through when recording.

Ah I see. Yes of course, I can imagine you wouldn't! To be honest, I don't record with it I only do sound design and mixing for video.

Doesn't matter if you record with it or not. There are certain things that just shouldn't be done if you want a good experience working in PT (or any other daw).
