No actual audio in recording
I'm a longtime guitarist, but have never recorded anything before. I recently bought myself the Focusrite Scarlett Solo. I followed the instructions and downloaded all the drivers, and then Pro Tools. When I record, it just displays a flat line, and no actual audio is recorded. Pro Tools DOES recognize the hardware, as it reads ASIO Control Panel next to a pic of my interface when I select hardware, and it reads Focusrite USB ASIO when I select playback engine. However, the Default Output field is greyed out and reads Output 1-2. I know I am actually recording, because both of the record buttons are lit solid, and a line is being formed, though it is flat. Does anyone know what the problem could be here? It seems to me like it is something small, since everything else seems to be working. I can hear the click track and my processed guitar though my headphones and everything. Thanks in advance!

Re: No actual audio in recording
Make sure your track is assigned to the line input which is the one that has the guitar connected. Check input on the i/o section of the track and select input 2, input 1 is usually the microphone.

Re: No actual audio in recording
Clear info on exactly you are doing would be useful. We cannot guess.
What guitar and what pickups going into what input at what gain setting? If acoustic what exact Mic are you using? What exactly is connected to exactly what input connector. Electric guitars should go into the DI input on the interface and have the pre-amp gain turned up. Or are you using an external DI box. Recording that dry signal to a track will be low-level and not obvious in a waveform unless you zoom well into the waverform. To hear that as you play you usually want to insert an amp sim plugin on the track. What plugins are you using? What are the settings in that plugin (show a screenshot). If all this is new to you, go grab a book or video (on YouTube) on recording guitar, lots of them cover tracking guitars, DI inputs, amp sim plugins etc. Start there, then if you are stuck, then say here what exact instructions you are following and what is not working, that way you will get more useful help. |

That was it. I have been playing guitar for 22 years. But I am a recording noob. Thanks!
