Default Active or passive ??

Again sorry this isnt protools , but i need to know .

Alesis actives £269
alesies passive with power amp RA300 , costs £375 .

people tell me to get passives and a power amp , why ???

Whats better , i think id rather go for actives .

advise me if im wrong !

Passives and a pwr amp give you options. You can use the same pwr amp with many different monitors. You can use the monitors with many different amps. With actives you have no options. The monitors and amps are one unit.

Another thing to consider is that if you have passives and a separate amp, if the amp goes bad you don't lose your monitors, you just use a different amp. With actives you lose both if either goes bad.

I already had an amp lying around so I got passives and saved the money I didn't need to spend on the amp. If I would have started with no amp I'd have probably gone for actives since it seems to be cheaper than going the separate components route.

Get whichever you like the sound of best. If they sound the same, get the less expensive option. If you want the option of using different amps with different monitors then get the separate components.
