Default Glyph Portagig50 Oxford 936 chip OR Seeking Superquiet Harddrive

Howdy,

My currently harddrive is a little too noisy so I'm looking at other options.

I like the Glyph Portagig50 because I do a lot of mobile recording and need to keep my gear as concise as possible.

The Glyph product manual states that this unit has an Oxford 936 chip. See if this link works:
http://www.glyphtech.com/docs/610033...Quickstart.pdf

But I am not seeing this chipset supported on the AVID site for PT9:

Is anyone using a Portagig50 with PT9?

Any other super quiet firewire drives people are using and can recommend?

Gracias,

Zapple!

A friend is using the 4TB Lacie Quadra and I am thinking of getting one of these as well. I did some research - at the time - that was the only big drive drive without a fan. Obviously this has its drawbacks regarding drive life, so if you opt to go down this route back up to something else. But not to mobile of a drive as well. But now that I am thinking about it, I believe that most of the Lacie drives (if not all of them) have the metal casing to dissipate heat and do not use any fans.

I've got a G-Raid that is currently quite noisy and I'm thinking of replacing the fan. People reporting great results with faster and quieter fans. Perhaps a bit of DIY could be another option for you?

Thanks for your thoughts. I didn't think of that, although at 10 years old and 120 gigs I feel like it's time to upgrade. Turn this little beast into a backup drive itself.

I'll take a peek at the Lacies.

Thanks,

Z!
