Default monitoring the LED lights on the digi002...how??

i've lately been learning about unity gain.

now,
i know u can meter each track with the LED lights on the 002, but since there are no numbers...how do i know if i'm peaking at 0?

i mean...cuz i need to have the slider on 0 and have the signal peak at 0 on the LED lights right?
but how would i know if there's no numbers?
where would "0" be on the LED lights?
where would ANY number be associated to on the LED lights???

JoyMODE101,
This same question was brought up recently..(search)
You are in the digital domain..between the AD and the DA converters. You are reading DFS scale.
When you "Peak" it means there isn't any more bits available in the system to convert.
Not good.

hope this helps a bit..
happy tooling,

I have an 002 and never look at the LED's at all. I use the "meters" in the edit window. Just the way I like to work.

is that in Pro Tools or as standalone?

cuz i'm using the digi002 as standalone.

i guess i'm not understanding UNITY GAIN.

can someone explain this to me or link me somewhere to know how i can do this, preferably when using a digi002 please?

i'm just using the 002 as a mixer with my MPC2000XL.
would i set up UNITY GAIN in this situation?
is it standard to set up unity gain in EVERY situation???

thanx so much

When the fader is at 0, that is UNITY GAIN... i.e., there is no change in the level between the input and the output.

Sorry, that was in protools as I have never used standalone mode. Ditto on unity gain-set the fader at -0-, but for live, set it where it sounds right. Use the "meters" to set the input gain. You have gain knobs on the first 4 inputs. Inputs 5-8 have a switch on the back for -10 or +4. Use -10 for things like acoustics and keybaords. Use +4 for line level stuff like a POD or a pro DAT machine. If the -10 setting is too hot and you max the meters, select the +4 position. You want the meters to peak in the upper third or around the 3 o'clock position since they are around the pan encoder knobs.

THERE we go.

THAT'S what i was wondering about.
lol

thanx so much guys.

so...i should set the tracks (in this case it's inputs 5-8) to 0 and get their meter(s) to peak at the 3' o clock position right?
THIS is unity gain, right?

oh also...

ok...
since i'm using my digi002 as a standalone mixer live, i send main 1 and main 2 outputs to the house.
what should i be monitoring so that the house gets a good level?

i just wanna make sure, but...do i go by the master faders???
do i also make sure to get the MASTER FADER LEVELS at 0 with the LEDs peaking at 3 o'clock as well???

is this the correct way to go?
if not, what is??

please let me know.
thank you
