Do you remember which cable you got from Amazon? I looked at the 580 product page on the Amazon site and they don't say anything about a cable being needed or what said cable would be.

Thanks much for the links & info. Interesting that apparently there's a couple of different versions of the 580 card. I looked at one that was listed on the MacRumors page and it had a covering such that the fan side didn't look like the one from BestBuy.

Ironically, there are a few others in the RX 580 line, someone had mentioned the Sapphire works better for some technical reason I can't remember. Maybe others here will chime in on the pros/cons.

I do remember going from 10.11 to sierra, had to update some boot rom on the stock card, then put in the RX to go up to S, then to HS. Another Protools mixer had the same computer as mine 5,1 12 core and had this set up and I figured if it works....then it works...Did this mid 2019 and so far no issues at all, just don't get a boot screen which I could care less. Especially since I have Mac HD drive on an SSD via Pcie slot and the mac boots up super fast anyways.

No boot screen isn't a problem. But can you zap the nvram/pram with the cmd/option/p/r combo? That's important.
