Controller surface needed for working with audio suite plugins
I am mostly 70% of my time working with plugins in AudioSuite mode. I have now a small budget to invest in a controller. I mostly do not use plugins as inserts as well as never have the mixer window open.
- should be no Avid-product - Slate Raven - expensive and I don't want to have it as my primary monitor - but I guess it's the "go to" at the moment? - iPad via Duet - working, but very hard tap on small buttons (guess iPadPro would be little better). Each windows config I must recreate for Duet. Also when I change my video monitor setup, these are useless again. - iCon products - they have LED rings, I can switch knobs to faders. Good value. I've seen so far only youtube videos using this with insert plugins (no audiosuite). This is my workflow: having 1000 audio objects, working from one to another, if process needed I have windows config for my go-to plugins. Here the mouse-hassle starts. I need the mouse for dialing all the parameters, I can only dial one parameter at once (time consuming), it's so annoying to me to switch all the time between "next preset" in a plugin menu at top to "Preview" button at bottom. Compare A to B I need the mouse again. Bypass on and off - again the mouse. This I would love to get but I am willing to lower my demands: - having real hardware mechanical whatever to set parameters with both hands. - having buttons for always the same: preview, bypass, next/before preset. render. close that window - having all together in a small smart unit |

Re: Controller surface needed for working with audio suite plugins
I'm not so sure any of those work well with audiosuite plugins(so verify before spending any money). Beyond that, I have to ask why? I've been using Pro Tools for 15 years and maybe do 5% of my processing with audiosuite(and only for small clips that need something special). Now that we have track commit, there is even less need for audiosuite(but of course, this is just 1 opinion)

Well this way to work for me is just for SoundDesign, not for Music.

Aha! That makes sense now. Maybe this would get more traction in the section for Post?

No control surface that I’m aware of can control Audiosuite plugs.

Re: Controller surface needed for working with audio suite plugins
I'd give a try on going with inserts and using commit(which CAN be done to a clip instead of an entire track). Especially if the others are correct about nothing working with audiosuite

Re: Controller surface needed for working with audio suite plugins
Normally I would ask this in the Post forum. To get a wider view from users, I decided for Tips&Tricks. I expected a not common solution for this.

Re: Controller surface needed for working with audio suite plugins
No, it can't be done. AS plugins are not "inline" in the mixer. Only thing I can think of is some sort of touch display.

Re: Controller surface needed for working with audio suite plugins
Update for iPad via Duet: can only edit one parameter at once. Bad for faster workflow, but still better for my hands (than a mouse).
