Default Pro Tools 11.1 HD - tempo decrease when i bounce to disk

Hi gurus.

I have just installed my new HD Native bundle...
Win 7 - PCIe - Omni - PT 11.1

...everything is OK except for tempo decreases when i bounce to disk.
The classical "sample-rate" problem...

After unpacking and installation - I also tested the spdif coax out from my PC into the OMNI - but I have now unplugged it...

After that I have:

- factory reset the omni
- removed digital inputs from my hardware setting
- using the internal clock
- tried to bounce in offline mode: mp3 WAV
- tried to bounce in online mode: mp3 WAV
- tried session in 44,1 kHz
- tried session in 48 kHz

Puuuhhhhh....but the tempo in my bounced file is decreased.

For 44,1 kHz a recorded "piano C" inside the session - is a #G (lower) in the Media Player...when I play the bounced file.

I have also imported the bounced file into the session again - as a clip...
And then the new "clip track" is playing OK (the piano C)

Heeeeeelp !!!!!

Hi,

Sounds like you recorded into a session started at one frequency but clocked at the time to another frequency from an external source. when you bounce it is bouncing at the session frequency!!

You'll have to create a new session! probably best to create a new session at the frequency of the audio files then use import session data to import the sessions tracks into the new session to match the frequency of the audio files.

or try a new session at the same frequency as the one your mixing in now and use import session data and select sample rate convert for the audio files.

one of the above methods should sort you out! maybe try a test session first with just a few tracks and bounce to check its working ok.

Hi Chris,

thanks for responding.

I created a new session with the same sample rate: 44,1 kHz
Imported the session data from the "problem" session (also in 44,1 kHz).

I imported all the tracks....and inside Pro Tools the "piano C" was OK.
Then I bounced in offline mode to a MP3 file...

I played the MP3 from Media Player - and the "piano #G" was played in my monitors....

Same result.

I can also preview the bounced file in the "New Workspace" and the "piano C" sounds OK there....

Please advice

Can I send you the bounced file with the "piano C" ?

Best regards
Mandal

What happens if you Export the piano track to an MP3 track, rather than bounce to disk?

Perhaps there is a problem with the bounce to disk for that session. Just a thought.

Hi,

All i can think of is maybe the original audio files were actually clocked at 48k (Although the session was at 44.1k)

Create a new session at 48k and import the audio tracks again, then try a bounce and see what happens.

You need to use FILE>BOUNCE TO DISK to bounce an MP3 or wav. Try a wav file and play that in WMP

Hi

My PC motherboard is a:

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P7P55DE_PRO/

I disabled my internal PC soundcard....and created a new session with only one piano track....in 44,1kHz (24 bit).

...recorded a "piano C" and "File->Bounce to->Disk" and created a WAV and also a MP3.

When I play the bounced file in Windows Media Player - the "piano C" is still a "piano #G"

Puuuhhhh....and when I import the same bounced file into a Pro Tools track....and play it inside Pro Tools....I can hear the perfect "piano C".

Puuuhhhhh......heeeelp !!!!

Anyone running PT 11.0.2 HD on a Win 7 Home Premium ?

------------

I did the same exercise in a session with sample rate 48kHz...
Recorded a "piano C" and bounced to both WAV and MP3.

When I play the bounced file in Windows Media Player - the recorded "piano C" is now almost a "piano B".

Thanks
Mandal

If I'm reading this correctly, your bounced file plays back fine in PT, but is slowed and pitched down in your media player?

Have you tried in any other media player (audacity, itunes, VLC)?

I'm thinking of the remote possibility that you accidentally hit a hotkey or something that caused your media player to slow the playback rate.

Yes, my bounced file plays back fine in PT, and is slow and pitched down in my media player.

Yes, I have tried other media players...itunes, I have aslo shared my files with other friends....and they can verify....it is slowed and pitched down (can I attach the files here?)

-------------------
I also executed the DigiTest application - and everything was OK.
After the test the... Setup->Hardware
...the input section...was reset.

But I just did the config again - and tested again....same result

-------------------

Well...how is this Christmas going to be

Waaohhh.....I can see that there is a version 11.1 ready for Windows now......yes let me try that one....

---------------------

...upgraded both drivers and Pro Tools to version 11.1
The same result: "piano C" in Pro Tools => "piano #G" in Win Media Player

-----------------------------------

I have tested both 16 bit and 24 bit.....same results !!!

Please advice

After doing some quick mathematics, I don't think your issue is a 44.1 vs 48khz one. The frequency of any "G#" note to the next higher "C" note is 79.4 (rounded) percent of the higher note. The ratio of 44.1 to 48 is 91.875 percent. It would seem to me if it was a 44.1 to 48khz issue then the interval would be more like 1 and one half semitones, not the 4 semitones you are getting. Anyone?
