Default PT 10.3.3 Error -9514 on Launch

I'm running PT10.3.3 and on launch I get the error -9514 about allocating cache and deleting prefs, it's a well documented error.

I can't get past this despite being logged in as Administrator and fully uninstalling and reinstalling my MBOX2 drivers, then PT.

I have disabled Windows Firewall and Windows Defender services.

I'm running Windows 8.

I've seen one article that talks about missing registry values and this is where it gets interesting. I DO NOT have any antivirus software running and as I say, Windows Defender service is disabled. But...I don't have a registry key at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Digidesign \User Mode this entry has not been created, if indeed it is needed.

I'm not on a domain, so therefore not using a managed account. I am logged in as local administrator for installation and execution of ProTools.

I've been trying for a week now having previously trying to get 10.3.2 running. I've used PT9 with Windows 7 for a long time, but recently rebuilt on Windows 8, and just got around to upgrading - damn these upgrades to PT are expensive!

Anyway, any answers would be very welcome.

I have a very straightforward PC build:

Core i7, 12GB RAM, standard NTFS drive (Boot, Windows, ProTools here) two RAID volumes (no ProTools use here). UAC disabled, Firewall Disabled, Defender Disabled. Latest MBox 2 drivers installed.

Hello,

I'm having the exact same problem with Pro Tools 10 on Windows 8.
Help would be very much appreciated.

What has helped me to solve the 9514 problem was to change "compatibility mode" to Win7 and "Run as administrator" to all the installers. It is explained in "PT10 and Windows 8" thread.

Windows 8 is not supported yet, so to run without issues, use Win 7 SP1

A possible work around for Win8 users; install PT9(with 10 already installed). Run PT9 one time, then UNinstall PT9. Try 10 again.

What helped me was to follow those instructions: http://duc.avid.com/showpost.php?p=1977790&postcount=68
PT10 on Win8 works no worse than on Win7 then.

Changing the compatibility doesn't work for me, so I guess I'll try the workaround.

Straight from AVID:
Windows 8 is not supported yet, so to run without issues, use Win 7 SP1

Wanna get things done, or beat your head against the wall on something that isn't supported yet?
As my old tech used to say, beat your head against the wall long enough, SOMETHING is bound to cave in. But it usually isn't the wall.

DUC history (as I remember) is the history of brave men who dare to challenge... not only stick with compatibility list :)
If I didn't read brave man post stating:
1. Simply open the "Pro Tools Installer" install folder (NOT the menu executable).
2. Change the SETUP.exe file's Compatibility to "compatibility mode for Windows 7"
3. Change the Run mode to - Run as "Administrator"
4. Run the installer!
I would give up...
