Default Changing Sample Rates

Sometimes I run into this wierd sample rate problem:
I open a new project, setting it to 16/44.1
I record some stuff, save it and close it
Later I re-open the project but now it's at the wrong speed.
Under hardware I change the settings to 48 and it works again.
Then I bounce it to disk converting it to 16/44.1 on the "best" setting
I open Nero to burn a disk but when I try to play the file its at the wrong speed again. Not only that but every wave file on my harddrive now plays at the wrong speed.
Later, for no apparent reason they're all back to normal. I usually have to restart my computer a few times before everything plays properly again.
Has anyone run into this? It's driving me a little insane.

Wow, I have never run into this myself. What are you using to play your sound files?

Also, have you installed any new programs in a while?

I'll either just give them a test listen in Nero before I burn them or I'll listen to them in Soundforge. I haven't really installed anything non-digi related.
I've had worse problems. At least this one seems to fix itself eventually but it always does it at the most inopportune moments and pushes me to the brink of exasperation before deciding to work properly.

No, thanks.
Something in your machine is not working right. Reopening a 44.1 file as 48 and it plays fine IS nuts. Sounds like your processor has had too many 'forest' mushrooms.
