Default it was the worst I have ever seen

80 % fully fragmented I did so much editing I was cleaning up every drum track between every hit etc. it took tonight 2 hours to defrag 18 gigs with disc warrior and that was after burning off almost all of the data onto discs. Lets just say this band got there moneys worth here. I take alot of pride in my productions oh well I'm to sleep!

How could Pro Tools' non-destructive editing cause fragmentation of the hard disk? I mean, when you slice tracks into regions, the files themselves are in no way separated...???? Or did you have zillions of little punch-ins or something?

Your not actually de-fragmenting the disk with Disk Warrior. You need Plus Optimizer (also from Alsoft) to perform de-fragmentation.

Disk Warrior rebuilds the directory structure of the disk. If there are errors in the directories Disk Warrior will rebuild the structure which it references from the previous state of the structure......it doesnt actuallt repair errors like the heinous Nortons which in it self has known to cause more errors than it attempts to repair.

Disk Warrior and Plus Optimizer are the most qualified Disk maintainance tools in my expreience. I fully endorse them.

Zeus, in most instances the audio files themselves dont get separated but the references to the audio files (which are smaller files that contain location naming an timming information), do get fragmented after heavy cutting, consolidating an region separating.

Targon

I've understood that the information about regions is located only in the Pro Tools session file, unless exported into the audio files.

When you make a region in Pro Tools, isn't it just information for the application itself to read the hard disk from some point to some other point...?

Could Digitechs clarify this a bit?
