Default Replacement Options for Waves Plug-Ins...

Ok guys and gals.....

You knew this was coming.

I've read the complete Big-WUP thread and my blood is pumping. I also read a thread by Dan Pinder in the Tips & Techniques forum looking to Replace L1. For the large company that I work for, the upgrade prices are immense.

So I am making this the Official Replacement Options for Waves Plug-Ins. There are so many options to the consumer ... We just need to protest with our pocket.

I look forward to see your options as well as possible techniques to achieve the same results as some of your favorite Waves plug-ins.

Here's my first list:

General EQs - Filterbank, UA EQs, URS EQs, MDW EQ
Notch Processing (Q10) - Equim
Dynamics - Sony Bundle
Reverb - Revibe, TL SPace
Doppler - GRM Tools
Pitch - Pitch N Time, Speed, PurePitch
Multiband - MC2000, MasterX
Doubler - Sound/Time Blender
Transient Mod - Sony Bundle
L2 - ?....This is a really great limiter...hard to beat
360 Bundle - Very specialized ...
Subharmonic Bass - Aphex Big Bottom
De-Esser - Forte Suite

That's off the top of my head....

Feel free to chime in.

Hopefully Waves will get the clue and re-examine their Update/Upgrade policies if enough of us respond with our wallets and our rights as consumers. We collectively spend A LOT of money on our tools and toys; we understand that this is not a cheap business we decided to enter and make our careers in. However, when enough of us professionals feel the same way, there must be something "rotten in Denmark." (or Israel in this case)

Honestly .... Personally I like the Waves plug-ins. They cover a lot of ground and pushed many a developer to produce great-sounding and interesting plugs. It's the business practices that I believe we find so unappealing.

So take this thread for what it is ... Pro Tools users who wish to examine their options for their financial investment in plug-ins.

Sincerely,

Phil Kovats, Sound Designer|Mixer, Consumer-Rights Activist (part-time)

I can't say that I was ever a big fan of the L2. In fact, Waves plug ins don't sound very warm. The TC|Master X combines more within one plug in (comp/Limit/Exp + EQ) and the result appears warmer and not as hard on the sound. I like the 4 choices of curves options too.
I'd like to see Filter Bank coming out with a MC5 that could replace the C4 and a 10 band EQ/notch filter to replace the Q10. For now, I'll go back to the TC|EQ and use 2 of them if need be.

I second the request for a "green".....ok...let's just say it!

I think a few of us would love Colin to take note and go head-to-head with Waves. He is incredibly talented and would come up with a GREAT mono/stereo limiter option.

And Lance is also correct in hoping for a de-esser from McDSP. I'm sure it would kick *****.

Colin makes AMAZING tools that are powerful, musical, and clean.

Sorry about the gushing ... I'm a fan ... can you tell?

I guess that would be our other option besides not paying Waves ... but using our relationships with other developers to push their limits and gain our business and take the market share away from Waves. I think that would help get our point across. Competition can be a beautiful thing!!!

i e-mailed Colin and he responded favorably. he said he is working fast and furious on new plugs. he also offered a CompressorBank setting that responds like a deesser but i'm waiting to hear if it's ok for me to post that section of his e-mail on the DUC.

Ren channel versus Channelstrip.

Channel strip has more eq bands, better noisegate, BIG plugin window as opposed to the tiny RC , very , very smooth parameter adjustment, and SAMPLE DELAY offset.

I love it.
