Re: New Computer USB & USB2 Question
No no no ...
No 5400rpm drives ever in music. You NEED a 7200rpm or SSD. The error messages will kill your workflow, get the correct hard drive from the start.

Re: New Computer USB & USB2 Question
And no power saving so-called 'green' drives either. The only thing I would use that 5400 rpm drive for is a backup/clone of your operating system and NEVER for active use.

Re: New Computer USB & USB2 Question
Thanks for all the advice guys. So he posted three links, I'm a bit confused , are the first two not the same thing, except one has 7 ports and is powered? :
this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anker®-Uspe...n%3A1028263031 and this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Inateck-Por...n%3A1028263031 "This one would be the best solution for your system but it costs more than the other two hubs. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Elgato-Thun...nderbolt+2+hub" So I will need a thunderbolt hub (which was the best solution) and an external harddrive, does anyone have links to the most cost effective ones? Or would the USB 3.0 Hub be ok with an external hard drive, again if anyone knows links to the most cost effective ones, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks a lot |

Something like that. https://www.amazon.com/FYL-Firewire-...70_&dpSrc=srch Then you will have to check the requirements for the exact version of Windows as well as the suiting version of Pro Tools you will be using. http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...m-Requirements You also might get the right 003 driver (9.0.6 for 003 console, 9.0.8 for 003 Rack). http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...02-003-Drivers As you might have seen under PT12 requirements, you will have to upgrade your memory to 16GB for PT12. 8GB Ram will not suffice for a fluently working PT12 system at the end of the day. And last but not least don't forget to use a 2nd separate, external drive for your Pro Tools sessions and audio files. This one has to be a 7200rpm HDD at least and you will have to connect it to your USB 3 port or daisy chain it with the 003 to your Firewire port. No 5400rpm drives and no USB 2 connections for Pro Tools recording (either too slow). Well, yeah, don't forget to set up all the OS optimizations for Pro Tools (whichever OS you will be using finally). http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...oting/en367983 Under normal circumstances, given you get it all set up correctly, using all the right stuff and gear, it should work. However there will be no guarantee just because Pro Tools always has been a picky little bitch as for processors, motherboards and other components. You might give it a try though. The best of success to you. |

Re: New Computer USB & USB2 Question
No, you cannot connect the 003 to your USB 3 port. There's no way to connect Firewire gear to USB.
You only could connect the 003 to a Thunderbolt port via a Thunderbolt-to-Firewire converter but you cannot get it to work on a USB port. |
