Pro Tools 11
Okay.....so 64Bit and offline bounce, HD video, no more DAE, low latency buffer, new metering, multiple mini meters, dynamic processing.......GREAT!!
But here's what. When PT 9 came out, I rapidly bought the $300 upgrade from PT8 to PT9 like I had done with every previous upgrade.....even though all the others were only $99 or so. What happens? Not 3 months later...maybe even sooner.....PT10 came out. For yet another $300. I was so pissed it was another $300 that I did not buy it. Until a couple months ago or less. Several weeks. Now....EFFING PT11 comes out and it is another $300!!!!! They have done it again!!!~!!! But to upgrade from PT9 to PT 11....according to the Pro Tools Expert blog..... is only $399!!!!! So folks like me......are getting screwed!!! I could have waited and bought PT10 during the amnesty period for $300 rather than the $600 it will cost me. By not having a decent grandfather thing......they are favoring PT9 owners and screwing the rest of us out of $300. How is this fair Avid? Please explain that to me and others. This is NOT FAIR Avid. Not to mention the Academic pricing. Also, I believe CPTK2 is going away. Dropped. But they will let you upgrade to 11 HD for.....$999!!!!! Just what is going on? It's great they have offered amnesty to PT10 buyers from April 7th until 11 is released at which time it is a FREE UPGRADE. But screw the folks who just bought it. We don't count. Man...........I am so pissed I can hardly speak. Someone please tell me I have this wrong......that the info at PT Expert Blog is off.

Don't be pissed. Just don't update. Nobody is forcing you to do anything.

Re: Pro Tools 11
I wouldnt update, its wrong. Just complain to your sales rep, he'll complain to his avid rep and itll maybe be resolved. But dont waste the money just yet until you try to get it for free or at least the extra $100 for the 9 to 11 upgrade.

Re: Pro Tools 11
Yeah...I feel the same. Got mine on Feb 27th. If I had had 10 and been using it for a year.....well, okay.....not a big deal. But a month and days?

Re: Pro Tools 11
Why not use it for a year then upgrade...the one consistent thing with the upgrade price is it is not for an introductory period. I don't know if you use it for a hobby or for making money, but really, if it is for hobby, are all those time saving features (obviously geared towards saving professionals time) worth the belly aching? If you make money with it...PT 10 is not all of a sudden obsolete, make money with it and save some of that dough for an upgrade in a year or 2. Or save a little more and upgrade to PT 12 when it comes out and be the first to have it. Don't be the first to clog up the DUC with complaints just cause you can't be the first child with a shiny new toy.

Re: Pro Tools 11
I'm in the same case, I bought an upgrade exactly one month ago from PT 8 to 10 for 300€ and now if I want PT11 I have to spend an other 300€. So upgrading my system from 8 to 11 will cost me 600€.
I'm not saying upgrades should be free, I'm saying that since going from 8 to 10 was 300€ and going from 8 to 11 is 400€, upgrading my system from 10 to 11 should cost me 100€, isn't it logical ? So obviously I'm not going to die if I don't get PT11 but I do feel screwed over... |
