Default will pro tools software support digi 001 in future

hey all

there's a used digi 001 for $499 canadian at the music store near my house.
right now i use the mbox 1.

will future versions of pro tools continue to support the digi 001? such as the new pro tools 7 thats coming out in october?
are they phasing out the 001 completely?

i was going to sell my mbox to a friend and use that money to out towards the used 001 so it works out to be a decent deal for me in that area. but im concerned that in the end i will get screwed if the 001 doesnt work on future versions of pro tools.

i'm also looking in to getting something from the mpowered series. i'm pretty much looking for more I/Os than the mbox as well as midi I/O. is the mpowered software pretty much the same as LE? stable? is it safe to make a switch from LE to m-powered. ive been using LE for years now.

any input or advice on any of this would be great.

cheers all. and thanks

Don't count on it.

The 001 hasn't been supported since late 6.4, and from what we've been told, the code to work with the 001 isn't even part of PT.

PTLE 6.4 is the last version to support 001. End of story! Look it up in the support/compatibility pages for yourself.

M-Powered 410 or 1814 is a possible way to go for more inputs. Software is practically identical. Another option is to sell your Mbox, get a 001 as cheap as possible (maybe from ebay), and make the hardware exchange to a 002r.

The thing to ask yourself is if you really need to stay current with the software. Is there something in the newer versions since 6.4 that you can't live without? Otherwise gaining all the additional inputs from the Digi001 is well worth it. I made the switch from mbox to digi001 and haven't looked back. By the time I want to upgrade they'll probably be on the Digi003 anyway.

Unless you got the 001 for REALLY cheap, that will cost more than shopping for a great price on the 002R.

You know, the saddest part of this whole "discontinued support" issue is that Digidesign sold a boat-load of Digi001 units...and to just bail on the whole line shows their true colors...Green. At least they could have had the huevos to continue supporting version 6.4 up through OSX 10.3.9 in compatibility testing - after all, just knowing that we could be forward compatible that far would help keep the multitudes of loyal 001 users from feeling abandonded! Case in point, I work with large movie files and sound/overdub matching - and I've been hanging back at 10.3.4.....but I've had a big need to be able to save these large movie files to DVD (to be able to span across multiple DVD's) - of which the new Roxio Toast 7 can now do - but you gotta run 10.3.9! So do I upgrade OSX and potentially lose my 001, or resort to coughing up more $$$ just to keep up with technology (read: make them richer) - be it another computer, or upgrade to the 002, 003...where will it end?

The 001 is quite the awesome tool...and just the same (since I bought it just after it came out) I thought I'd have a viable tool to last quite a while, heck I don't mind staying with Panther if my studio continues to work as well as it does! I'm sure that if I went out and bought 002, it will phase out as well...and so will the support (real poor company strategy!).

If I had one question to ask Digitech Support, it would be for them to let me know what kind of problems I would incur using LE 6.4 with OSX 10.3.9.

Hope I get an answer...

Hey Guitar Dog. I've been using the digi 001 with 10.3.9 ever since it came out. I've had no problems at all with the OS,001 and Pro Tools. I was using this set up for months when I saw on the DUC that it's not supposed to work. Credit that to the quality of an Apple OS I suppose. I hope this helps.

OS 10.3.9 has known issues with Quicktime 7 and the Digidesign Core Audio driver. You shouldn't see any problems with Pro Tools specifically unless you're using video in your sessions. Some have had success by reinstalling Quicktime 6.5.2, but that's been about a 50/50 proposition. The others have had to revert to an earlier OS version.
