Default HDX Update and options

Just spoke to my dealer. He's getting HDX in mid Movember. Protools 10 needs to be updated to 10.1 to work with it! This is scheduled for late Movember or early December. Mac Pros to host it are March? 2012. The Magma TB box is end December.

He has seen the Magma working on a Macbook Air via TB. I personally would prefer a beefed up iMac to a Mac Pro using a TB connection to HDX. As soon as he gets his Magma TB we'll be testing it on an iMac and see if this is a good option. Hopefully by Xmas we'll all have a game plan.

Why would you have to wait for new Mac Pros?

Westwere's and Nahelem's are supported.

Patience is a virtue. I won't buy older technology at the same price as new by not waiting a bit longer. And the lifespan of the older Mac pros doesn't justify a purchase of one. Like it or not, Thunderbolt technology is here and as peripherals start making it to the market, you'll be glad you have a TB port.

I tend to do the opposite. Let others pay the premiums for "cutting edge" while I save thousands buying used and chugging along!! But you might be right this time with TB.

I don't expect that the new Mac Pros will be ready until the second quarter of next year because Intel isn't even releasing the chips until sometime in the first quarter. Waiting for TB isn't a bad idea, but I guess it depends on how long you intend to keep your computer. My experience with HD Native on the Harpertown Mac Pro has been so lousy that I may have no choice but to buy a 2010 model sooner rather than later.

Exactly....This is why the richest self made people drive used cars. It's that thought that made them rich in the first place.
